The Adventures of Megan & Meebo

Thanks to a friend of the family (Lee Ann Wang), I got the genius idea to BREAD MEEBO!!!  Apparently, the new internet craze is to bread (or tortilla) your cat… read all about it and see pics of other cats on Gawker’s New Hot Internet Meme 

There is also a facebook webpage where Meebo’s breading pics are posted…please like them! 

I thought about it and decided he was not a white bread type of cat…so we got some multigrain bread… and on the 3rd slice…we got a few pics! As you can see…your favorite Tabby is not amused…hehe

I’m sure Meebo cant wait to have Frank come back and save him from my boredom.

So Meebo told me that he didnt want to miss out on all the Halloween festivities and that he wanted to be Puss in Boots I had a feeling he wouldnt want to wear the boots and I was not too keen on having him wield a sword. Sooo…I suggested that he be SIMBA from the Lion King. He wasnt too happy about this (see pic 1) but I’m the hand that feeds him so he grudgingly went along with my plan. Tho he is definitely trying to will PETA to come and snatch me.

Anyways, despite Meebo kitty-hating on my idea…I decided to pick up a few props for the photo shoot from the Disney Store…Simba’s bffs of course: Timon and Pumbaa!!!

First, we tried it with Meebo…side by side… but he didnt look FEROCIOUS enough…so I got his scratcher hill and put him atop that and BOOM: we have a winner!

HALLOWEEN is coming and Meebo’s auntie Ari decided to surprise him with a gift to get him in the festive mood. One day I come home and find a USPS box and Meebo, nosy cat that he is, immediately came over to check out the scene. As you can tell by the pictures he was sooo excited and I could hear him whisper: “you better quit playin and hurry up and put some food in this candy corn dish” …which i did:)

So Meebo whispered to me this morning that he was feeling like FWMJ forgot about him and he was depressed (see first photo). I assured him that FWMJ is heartsick over in Brooklyn w/o Meebo and would be visiting this weekend— Meebo grinned like Garfield the cat and then got up to look out the window for Frank :) 

Looks like we both cant wait for his westcoast visit this weekend!

In the swag bag from Meebo’s cat sitter was a lil toy for him to play with and he quickly took to it! I was quite excited as you can see in the video as I think it is a good way for the fat boy to burn some calories :)

So at the BBQ in Prospect Park this past weekend a few hopefuls wanted  a Meebo cameo…which would make sense since I was not in Santa Monica. I had to report to the disappointed fans that Meebo was holding the fort down in Santa Monica all by himself.

The question about Meebo was a good one because I travel a lot and that has created a problem for me: what to do with Meebo when I am away for more than 3 days. I mentioned the dilemma to one of my friends and she recommended that I get a cat sitter. Intrigued, I looked into the idea and realized there were a few companies in the LA area that focused on this amazing idea of providing dog/cat sitters for people who do not feel comfortable with leaving their pet at a kennel and prefer a more personalized service. The price varies depending on how long you want the sitter to chill with your pet and level of the specificity of instructions.

For cats, the basic service includes: food, water, litter cleaning, 10 mins of love. And the price varies between $10-$30 for each visit. 

Being an avid fan of craigslist, I decided to check out if I could find a cat sitter directly. And I was BLOWN away by the number of people advertising on craigslist. I followed up with a few people and decided to interview 3 people (necessary so Meebo could check them out and I could assess how he liked them). The woman, Carmen who I decided to go with immediately took to Meebo and Meebo to Carmen.  She came in extremely organized—with a welcome folder and a contract. As well as a journal to chart how Meebo behaved. I am an instinct person (it’s a blessing and a curse) and she felt right so I offered the job to her after 3 minutes.

Meebo’s visits include am/pm visits—(he likes to look out my screen door, so she opens it in the morning and closes it at nite). Food, water, brushing, and some loving! 

I left on a trip last month, w/o a worry about Meebo.

I come back and I am BLOWN away by what she has left: a swag bag with food/treats/cat toys for Meebo, a card (with a picture of Meebo) thanking me for hangtime with Meebo, and a full report of his behavior (she says that he was a perfect gentleman).

oh and someone thought Meebo was getting too big…hence the “weight management” products in the goodie bag in the picture :)

Oh yeah and much to Frank’s delight, she sends pictures and videos of little Meebo…

I fully believe that I have: the.best.cat.sitter.ever.

When I’m not trying to understand why cats are not more like dogs or how they have carved out an existence by simply sleeping and eating all day… I work. No, really…I do.

So if you dont know anything bout me: I’m a professor of political science at Pepperdine University, professional geek, and am fortunate enough to get paid to work in Malibu, CA. But when I’m not in the classroom…I like to write and read at home.

Now this has been quite different with Meebo around because he LOVES attention and demands to be noticed. So every.single.damb.day … my home work desk has become a turf war…with Meebo trying to take over all of my territory. Kinda like gang warfare— where in this rendition— claws (Meebo) and stern words (Megan) replace guns…

On any normal day…he jumps on my desk like the ninja kitty he is and walks across my laptop (as if he dont weight 20lbs and could cause serious harm to my laptop) and then plops down somwhere near me. Meebo’s struggle has always been: How to get all of his girth on my desk (click on last picture)… As you can see in the middle picture: Meebo normally gives up and jumps on the back of my chair. In this picture he decided to test out the stability of my hair b/c he wanted to lay in it.   …i cant make this up.

I guess short orange hair w/4 paws… really dont care…

So Meebo is not allowed in my bedroom… its the only room in my 2BR apartment that he cannot go in. As a result, he thinks its some magical happy place and any chance that he can sneak in there…he tries.

So I was packing on Friday for a weekend getaway w/ Meebo’s dad (fwmj) and my bedroom door was cracked and this cat kept on trying to sneak his lil fat self in my room. Around noon, I sat down to have my lunch (which included chicken…meebo’s favorite)…after 5min of peaceful eating, I realized Meebo had not come to try to steal my food (see last tumblr post) and that was weird so I IMMEDIATELY knew something was up and ran to my bedroom where I saw this first picture of Meebo… CHILLIN HARD on my floor.  This cat gonna have the nerve to look at my Louis Vuitton clutch next to him and then innocently look up at me and I swear I could hear him whisper: “You lookin for the Louis or you lookin for me?”

I couldnt help but laugh at him and all his ridiculousness. He chose laying in my room over trying to steal my chicken lunch.

I went back to my lunch and then I found him in my closet (reasons I dont normally allow this cat in my room) eyes wide-eyed and filled with wonderment…

So if you saw the video from yesterday…you know that Meebo is a fatty and needs to go on a Cali water-only diet (but then I wouldnt be able to sleep from his meowing and howling).

I promise (on my momma) that I have tried to limit his food intake after FWMJ spoilt him by giving him the cat food equivalent to McDonalds for 4 years… but these habits are not easy to break.

Evidence: Meebo is HONGREE and now tries to get in on my breakfast and dinner and I literally have to shove him away!  (see pictures)

Like for realz: what is he gonna do w/ some oatmeal?!

Yesterday was a hot day for Santa Monica and Meebo always tries to put his lil face in my cup of water so I figured he might like an ice cube in his water… well…he didnt know what to do do with it.
